Florida Department of Education approves 2Sigma School Courses

Tallahassee, FL (February 20, 2024) — 2Sigma School, an accredited instruction partner with high schools offering live classes in computer science, received approval status for four courses under Section 1003.499, Florida Statutes, for grades 9-12, from the Florida Department of Education. The approved courses include AP Computer Science A and AP Computer Science Principles — two of the most popular courses among high school students.

Florida house bill 495 (2018) required all middle and high schools to offer computer science or provide students access via the Florida Virtual School or other means if the district is unable to provide access.

"2Sigma School is proud to be the only approved course provider that specializes in offering live instructions in a choice of over 10 computer science courses, ranging from AP Computer Science, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, and Generative AI," shared Vishal Goenka, founder/CEO. "We are excited to serve middle and high schools in Florida and receive approval from Florida Department of Education for our most popular courses."

To receive approval from Florida Department of Education, a course provider must demonstrate their commitment and track record to meet the highest standards in educational outcome and alignment to Florida's Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T.) Standards and Florida's state academic standards.

Dr. Paul O. Burns, Chancellor of Public Schools, issued this memo to school district superintendents on February 16, 2024, announcing the newly approved courses for school district online course providers.
