Alps Early Access and Research Study Participation Form

AP CSA teachers are invited to pilot ALPS - An Adaptive Learning Platform for Schools that provides you unique insights into your students learning and enables you to create highly personalized assignments.

Are you an AP Computer Science (CS) teacher willing to test a new product that can improve your teaching? Our research team is looking to recruit high school AP CSA and CSP teachers to test an AI-based adaptive learning platform (“ALPS”) that provides unique insights and actionable  recommendations for teachers.

This is your chance to participate in an Institute of Education Sciences (IES), U.S. Department of Education funded research study to test an innovative product that has the potential to transform high school CS teaching and learning.

Participating teachers will be assigned to either an intervention group that will use ALPS during
the research study, or a control group that will get access to ALPS after the study. Those
selected for the intervention group will be asked to use ALPS for two months (March and April)
during the 2024-2025 school year. The platform helps teachers view student progress towards
mastery, engagement, and many other data points while also being able to assign custom
assignments based on each student’s performance.

Benefits of Participation:
● All participating teachers will receive free licenses and teacher professional development for the adaptive learning platform, ALPS. Teachers in the control group will receive access after the research study is complete.
● Your input will help shape a cutting-edge instructional tool.

Participant Expectations:
● All Teachers:
    ○ Complete two online surveys
    ○ Support the administration of two online surveys and one practice AP CS assessment to students
● Some teachers may choose to participate in a 1-hour interview.
● Additionally, teachers selected for the intervention group will be asked to:
   ○ Attend a few hours of training on use of ALPS
   ○ Use ALPS within your AP CS classroom for a 2-month period
   ○ Complete bi-weekly (every two weeks) teaching logs
   ○ Provide consent for researchers to understand your use of ALPS (such as features used)
   ○ Allow the research team to observe two successive class periods (if selected, and voluntary)

Compensation: Based on the level of participation (e.g., duration, number of students), participants will be eligible to receive compensation in the range of $125 - $350.

Once you fill the form, you will hear from us within 2 weeks. We will demo the product and share more details about the participation process.
